No matter how big or small the part, every actor needs
to know the answers to the following questions:
1. What does your character want in this scene?
He wants to know the truth about
his father. He is trying to convince his mom that his father is not dead
and that he is not a traitor. He also does not want her to marry another
man, because all she will do is rid herself of
that one as well.
2.
What is your character’s motivation for doing what he or she does?
He is motivated to prove his
mother wrong. He wants her to realize that his father cannot be classified
as a traitor, and that he is in fact a good man.
3.
What obstacles
stand in his or her way?
He has to overcome his
narrow-minded mother and try to convince her that his father is not dead.
He has to convince that it is a bad idea to marry another man. He also has
to stand up to the killers. He also, after being stabbed, warns his mother
to run away, to protect her as best as he can.
4.
What happens when your character confronts these obstacles?
He gets into a heated discussion
with his mother. When he confronts the murderers, they end up stabbing him
to death.
5.
Are there any distinctive elements in your character’s way of speaking? (Is
his or her language elaborate, plain, musical, or what?)
He is a snooty child. He is
depicted as being stubborn towards his mom and try
to argue with her.
6.
What is your character thinking during the scene? (How does he or she react
to the other characters and events?)
He is very defensive when his
mother calls his father a traitor. He is also protective for his mother
when the murderers enter. He becomes very aggressive when he hears one of
the murderers call his father a traitor, and in results attacks him.
