This scene has two main sets, one is in a courtyard around 1 a.m. and the stars are blotched out. the next set is in a dark and damp hallway line with candles and cobwebs.

In Act 2, scene 1 of Macbeth, Fleance and Banquo are found outside in the courtyard starring out at the black heavens. Banquo confesses that he is having nightmares and therefore is not asleep. Macbeth comes out from the dark and shoos his guest too bed. Then out of thin-air a floating dagger comes toward Macbeth’s hand. He tries to grab it though he cannot because it is a figment of his imagination. This is his psyche’s last attempt to save Macbeth from destroying his soul before he proceeds to kill the King, thereby conquering his fears and emotions which will eventually turn him into a monster.
