Character Report: Good Macbeth

 

1. What does your character want in this scene?

Good Macbeth wants to restore order and civility in his palace, but he realizes that the evil and ambition in bad Macbeth have made this impossible.


2. What is your character’s motivation for doing what he or she does? 

            Good Macbeth gives a speech about how his life is withering and how he essentially wishes he could go back to how things were before. In addition, he shows his concern for his wife’s health when he asks the doctor about how she is doing.


3. What obstacles stand in his or her way?

One could say the bad Macbeth stands in his way, but good Macbeth realizes that his awful situation is unfixable and that he is about to die.


4. What happens when your character confronts these obstacles?

            When good Macbeth confronts bad Macbeth about his evil motives, bad Macbeth kills him. This symbolizes how Macbeth has turned completely evil and all hope for him is lost.


5. Are there any distinctive elements in your character’s way of speaking? (Is his or her language elaborate, plain, musical, or what?)

            His language is more eloquent than bad Macbeth’s, but he is very depressed and nervous. He talks articulately about how his life has turned miserable.


6. What is your character thinking during the scene? (How does he or she react to the other characters and events?)

            Good Macbeth shows his final thought of hope when he says ‘Fear not Macbeth, no man born of woman shall e’er have power upon thee’. He then becomes his extremely nervous about the ten-thousand English soldiers coming to attack. He is thinking about how evil bad Macbeth has gotten, but he realizes that he cannot do anything about it.
