Character Report: Doctor
1. My character which is the doctor wants to inform King Macbeth on how
his wife is doing and help Lady Macbeth with sickness. Due to her current state
of illness, Macbeth asks the doctor how his wife is doing.
2. The doctor's motivation for telling Macbeth how
his wife is doing is that the doctor wants to cure Lady Macbeth of her illness.
He does this for the motivation of leaving Dunsinane and so that Macbeth does
not get angry him and possibly kill him.
3. The obstacles that stand in the Doctor's way are that Lady Macbeth can
only be cured by healing herself. Also while the doctor is trying to help his
patient there is a war rapidly approaching on the castle.
4. When the doctor confronts these obstacles he realizes that they are
too overwhelming and he prays to himself that he wishes he were home.
5. The doctor seems to be speaking in a pretty plain voice while he is
asking the king's questions. I believe he does this so that he does not upset
the king anymore then he already is.
6. The doctor in this scene is
thinking that Lady Macbeth's only hope she that she could cure herself. Also he
is trying to go along with the flow commenting the king on his war
preparations, not really trying to annoy Macbeth. But at the end of the scene
the breaks down and wishes he were far away Dunsinane due to the approaching
war.
