Stage Choices
For the stage, our company decided that our scene most likely took place in a war room, and that the doctor’s presence there was because he needed to report on Lady Macbeth. Because of this atmosphere, we added the table with the armor near it. We also tried to use all of the space given to us to pace around, as our scene split Macbeth into a purely good and a purely evil side, and the pacing symbolized his unease and insecurity with his choices. We also made sure that Bad Macbeth killed good Macbeth and won the battle for the soul of Macbeth on the left side of the stage, as in Renaissance painting, the damned were perpetually portrayed on the left hand side of the painting, while the saved were sent to the right.
