Costume Drawings
King
Duncan
As
King of Scotland, Duncan wore a cape to signify his nobility and a golden crown
to signify his yet higher status of royalty. The cape, however, is tattered to
foreshadow and mirror his ragged destiny to die at the hands of one of his most
trusted subjects and a true friend, Macbeth.
Malcolm
Malcolm
is wearing a red sash, such as the one that is pictured below. The sash is an
important part of a Scottish soldiers uniform of the
time, therefore we have included it in Malcolm's costume. The sash is red
because red is the color of blood and in the scene Malcolm is on a battlefield
which has many dead and dying men. He also has a sword in his belt that he is carrying
around because it is a battlefield and he has to have some form of protection.
We chose not to give armor to Malcolm because he is a Prince and thus would
most likely not be fighting in the battle since he is a member of the royal
family.
The
Captain
Lennox
He wears
a small grey cape to show that he is associated with royalty but is not royalty
himself. He also carries a sword because
there was just a battle that occurred and he remains in his battle ready
attire.
Ross
Ross
is a wearing a coat and tie with khaki pants because it is a sign of nobility
and class in our modern times. Ross is a member of the Scottish nobility and
therefore he is wearing clothes that represent the nobility.
