Gilman Shakespeare Festival 2010
During the next week we will be preparing to participate in Gilman’s Annual
Shakespeare Festival.
This year the Festival will take place in the 2nd Floor Common
Room on Tuesday, December 15th and Wednesday, December 16th during 5th period.
Here are the general ground rules for the competition:
· Each acting company will present a different scene that
lasts no longer than seven minutes.
· Each acting company will also turn in a promptbook that will include a
record of all the decisions you reach as a group about your staging of the
scene.
· You may cut parts of the scene or cut speeches down to facilitate
memorization or to keep the scenes within the seven-minute limit.
· Everyone in the company should be on stage at least part of the time, and
every actor must say at least one line. Sharing roles or doubling roles is
acceptable.
· Actors should have movements blocked out and know their blocking.
· Actors are strongly encouraged to memorize their lines, but they may use
scripts; if so, they should be familiar enough with their lines to be able to
look at the audience frequently or be convincing. (Note cards would be a good
idea.)
· Casts should supply themselves with some rudimentary costumes and props.
· You will receive two grades on this project.
- First, you will receive a grade for your acting
presentation. You will not be graded on the quality of your acting so
much as you will be graded for the effort, enthusiasm, imagination, and
cooperation which have gone into putting your scene together.
- Second, you will receive a grade for the prompt book that your group
turns in on the day of your presentation.
Your prompt book should include the following:
- notes on the language, blocking, music and lighting,
written in the margins of your script
- drawings of the sets and costumes for your scene
- a report on your character’s objectives
- a company report which explains your group’s interpretation of the scene
- Extra Credit will be given if your promptbook is created in electronic form
and includes actual music and video from your scene. (That way we can share
your work with the world!)
