Creative Writing ala Kafka

Write a story in which your hero metamorphoses into something non-human. Set your story in the present day, in your neighborhood, at home, or even at school.

Experiment with Kafka’s unique narrative point of view. Write your story in the third person, but locate the story’s narrative perspective deep within your hero’s psyche. Create a situation for your hero that is similar to the one Kafka created for Gregor Samsa, one that puts the hero under unbearable pressure. Think about the situation that Kafka was in when he was inspired to write his great comic horror story. Think about why your hero has unconsciously chosen to become this particular animal.
